Hi there, and welcome to Kathryn’s Crafty Corner. A place where the imagination can run freely. I’m Kathryn, the creator of KCC (Kathryn's Crafty Corner).

Originally my business was solely on digital prints and media, this was around 2016. Where I focused primarily on photography and video works. As time went on and I went through my bachelor's program, I picked up other mediums that I have fallen in love with, Cement being the biggest discovery. At first, I started out with only a few molds at the end of 2020. I focused on coasters first, then hand-casted sculptures, soap holders, candles, and I’ve currently fallen in love with hand-cast and painted planter pots, and my beloved plant buddy bunny series.

 

Another addition to KCC is my original digital designs. Which were originally thought to be created for clothing designs that would collaborate with eco-friendly drop shippers. From there I came up with the crazy idea of creating a full book on my own. From spring to fall 2021 I successfully wrote and published my first children’s book “Learn Our Animal ABC”, where I focused on animals in my home country, Canada.

 

My creative process travels in many streams and some are stronger currents than others. But, no matter the process, each and every one of my pieces is slightly different from one another. No piece can ever be perfectly replicated. Our pieces are not full concrete, only cement, so they are fragile to drop off the table. We are working forward to create stronger bonds that will eventually last forever, these are just some goals for the next few years.

 

When it comes to creating any of my cement designs the process goes along the lines of; taking my molds and dusting them out first, if a design warrants any small additions I will add them in now (e.i glitter, imbeds etc….), I cast each piece with my cement mixture, which I always create in small batches to allow less chance for waste. After pouring the drying process will be 24 hours at the minimum, I like to leave some molds in for longer to allow for a nice surface finish. Once all pieces are done, I dust them and then apply paint to those who warrant it, and then always 3 coats of water protection sealant, this also needs a day to cure. I always want my pieces to last as long as possible, and also let you use them in all the ways you may want. After all that is done the last bits are either adding cork bottoms or my special stamp, so you know it came from my hands to yours.

 

When all pieces are ready to go I hand pack them with 100% recycled or recyclable materials. I’m always changing any extras that I may throw into each package, so keep an eye out for any small freebies you may find! Then that’s when I send them from my home to yours.

 

All that being said, all pieces are handmade and/or designed, and packaged by me. So you know all items are made with love!
